The Musings Poem by Raymond Farrell

The Musings

The musings
Poetic (or otherwise)
Of those who know nothing
Of neurophysiology
Are amusing
When all captivated
By the so-called flow of consciousness
Wrongly assuming
They have constructed a reality
In their minds
When in Reality
The hardcore science
Shows that their supposed reality
Is nothing more than a blend
Of hormones and neurotransmitters etc
Heavily influenced by the external
Reality over which they have little control
Their musings and false creed
Can be questioned in a second
If they were to ditch their car
Fall down a flight of stairs
Or have their spouse
Drop dead in front of them
Their manufactured reality
Under such circumstances
Would be drowned
By the flood of various hormones etc
Surging through the body
Caused by the change
In external Reality
Of which they are part
Their reaction to which
Determines their existence
And not the reverse
Or any other rubbish
With no more currency
Than a three dollar bill
Except
At poetry workshops
Or in the pantheon
Of poetry gods
Worshipped by the academic elite
Content not to have to deal
With the harsh Reality
That exists outside
Of their government funded
Gilded cages
Where people are forced
To actually work for a living
To provide the funding
So they can continue running
On their literary
Hamster wheels
And go nowhere.
