The Old Fellow Poem by Francis Duggan

The Old Fellow

We never will see the old fellow again
But fond memories of him with us will remain
He was one who could tell or laugh at a joke
And fair dues to him he was a grand old bloke.

At the weekend the old fellow did enjoy his beer
And to the local pub he brought laughter and cheer
He told many great stories and sung many a song
And with him the night it did never seem long.

To help others out he went out of his way
And about him a bad word you would not hear one say
He was one who enjoyed his local renown
The last of the great characters of the town.

His many friends fond memories of him retain
Though his life not easy he never did complain
He died in his sleep from life his a painless release
The lovely old fellow may he rest in peace.
