The One With Many Friends Poem by Francis Duggan

The One With Many Friends

The one with many friends is one not without foes
This is how humanity works one does have to suppose
There is no shortage of critics in any town
For to drag the wealthy and popular down

Everyone does not like you why otherwise pretend
The best friend of my enemy is not my friend
Those who do not like you may be of the few
But this is not saying anything that is new

You may be a person that many admire
And of singing your praises never seem to tire
But true to their form the knockers of the town
Find pleasurein their words on dragging you down

Not everyone sees the beauty in a rose
The one with many friends is not one without foes
With the majority in your town not everyone does agree
This is how it is and how it always will be.
