The Origin Of Humankind Poem by Nhuan Xuan Le

The Origin Of Humankind

I am from Vietnam

Of a superhuman race as they used to embalm

Of whom the ancestors as history would record - How merry!

Were son of the Dragon and grandson of the Fairy.

But the Fairy to Emperor De-Minh got married

And the Dragon to King Kinh-Duong, likewise, none varied.

That's both Fairy and Dragon became wives of men

And the lineage only descends from males then.

Therefore, for the nation human beings have been the base;

That's exactly our Vietnamese race.

Nowadays, science has strengthened our belief

Of humankind in Charles Darwin's theory brought into relief:

They found ancestors of many many million years ago,

As primates, on branches, in caves, under water, to grow;

To Africa, afterwards to Europe to become Neanderthal men,

At the same time to become Denisovans back to Asia then.

These days we can go to watch our primogenitor "Lucy"

On exhibition in Houston and eleven other cities choosy.

But there are some people who don't agree to it

And think that humankind is created by a deity, a spirit.

As for me, I stand between, i.e. I follow both sides:

With the Evolution, there already are evidence, enough guides.

But with the Intelligent Design, I am waiting in all cheers

Until that "Being" personally appears

In order to pose just one question, however:

So incompetent, inhuman, why haven't you vanished forever?

In short, Humankind is the ultimate, the consequent direction

Of Evolution - the natural selection -

Nobody can claim unduly to be "the maker" mystically furled

To return to the Middle Ages this already civilized World...
