The Past Only Catches Up When You'Re Standing Still Poem by Shane Engisch

The Past Only Catches Up When You'Re Standing Still

As I wander through
all the shattered glass of yesterday
calming down the beating drum of
changing lives and open chances
piecing all the damaged ones
to make a spirit of true beauty
I savor all the good and bad
so that we all see the art of the journey

I don't want to wait on someone else's discovery
feeling like I missed it by an inch misguided by
intuition clouded from recent recovery
taking so long I think I over analyze

I'm acting as a vessel for all of mankind
inspiring the feelings that you had in your subconscious mind
learning that the fates don't like to mess up
and hate it even more when you draw your own lines

So I'm tryin not to live with doubt or any regret
but it's tough reminding yourself of what you said
I tend to tear into my will I must confess
cuz my greatest fear is me not pursuing my very best

twitching with an itch I just want to let it all out
but gradual degree is key to live strong right now
it's coming to a boil
it's coming to a rise
let the wave take you in
push you up to the sky
if you want to stay down
that's fine by me
I'm not forcing you to come along
I'm running wild and free
