The 'Poem A Day' Project ~ Day 233

I’ve evolved over generations
Many countries and many nations
Resulting in a glorious thing
With beauty of grace, style and wing
I have a wonderful ability
To glide and soar and be free
Nature really got it right
When it gave me the gift of flight
So I must say with sarcasm and rage
Thanks for putting me in this cage!

poet Henry Lawson

The old year went, and the new returned, in the withering weeks of drought,
The cheque was spent that the shearer earned,
and the sheds were all cut out;
