The Rain Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

The Rain

Stay with me in the rain
Let others complain
Let them seek shelter
Let them wander away
While we stay.

Walk with me in the rain.
Feel the mud slosh
Feel the cold drops
Let your hair get wet
Forget your body
As we walk along.

Stand with me in the rain
Look up at the birdless sky
Listen to the muffled silence
Let the desolation sink in
But don’t try to lead me home.
Instead, stand with me, stoically.

If you will stand in the rain with me,
You will come to see that there is a somber beauty
In the absence of color and sunshine.

If you will stand in the cold with me,
You will come to feel that there is a unique comfort
In the warmth that stokes from within.

If you will stand in silence with me
You will come to know that there is a special connection
In the intimacy of a moment without words or purpose.

So stand here with me in the rain
For we may never have a chance again
To say everything we feel with silence.
