The Rambling Gambler Poem by Charles M Moore

The Rambling Gambler

Rating: 5.0

I guess when I'm gone
and I cant carry on
people will do what they do
they'll tell you storys
about things I've done
most of which will be true
then they'll change their faces
and say I've been places
I've never seen or knew
but I'm just an old ramblin gambling man
doing what I've got to do

I'm just an old ramblin gambling man
take it from me that its true
I'll give you odds
that are second to none
then I'll go off somewhere new
I'll take my chances and put down my slice
on horses, or poker, blackjack, and dice,
fix the odds in my favour where ever I can
cause I'm just an old ramblin gambling man

I'll drive fast cars
and go drinking in bars
and I'll give some women the eye
I must be quite handsome
they often fall for me
well I'm just that kind of a guy
some fellas get jealous
and I get in fights
but it's only to find out
who's wrong and who's right
I'm just an old ramblin gambling man
struggling through life the best that I can

I'll dress quite smart
it's a kind of an art
it makes people see what I mean
it opens doors and it gives you a start
when you know that you havent a bean
they'll soon get talking
and part with their cash
well if your gonna do it
do it with class
lifes just a game of roulette thats been canned
and I'm just an old ramblin gambling man

We all end up square at the end of the day
just as we started the same
whether your King, or a Queen, or a Jack,
well Joker it's part of the game
don't get upset when you look at your hand
it can change in an instant
it's never been planned
remember who told you
when I'm dead and damned
it was that old ramblin gambling man.

Great read, Charlie. I've always liked the smooth, liquid quality of your work, and especially the easy readability. Gonna go catch this one on your Raptors site. Fine work! Linda :)
