The Self's Riddle Poem by Aman Biswas

The Self's Riddle

You think too much
Before you thought too little
On a journey to find yourself
You lost the purpose you set out with

You look at a mirror
To see whats beside you
Forgetting that it can't show
Whats right behind you

Only if you would turn
To see what stands in your shadow
What creeps behind you
Where stands your actual foe

Only if you would trace your steps
To see where you began
How you took your first step
While remembering how you dressed

You forgot that you were you
When you set out on a journey to find self's riddle
And now that you are so far ahead
You have lost yourself, little by little

Only if you would realize
That its as easy as to go back a few steps
To find your true self
That you set out on a journey to intercept

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A message: Some of us get so lost in trying to search for our 'True self' that we begin to believe that everything that we were before and every feelings that we had weren't true! We become so obsessed with trying to find out 'true self' that we cannot accept any given answer, i.e. we begin to think that everything about us till now was a lie, and everything we find about ourself in the present is false interpretation and that only the future holds the key. And when this happens the 'future' never arrives and becomes the present.

I am sorry i can't make myself very clear but i hope my message got through to you =)

PS: This poem's dedicated to a friend. Hope that she finds herself soon enough!
