The Shadows At My Feet Now Keep Me Warm Poem by Samuel Richard Leonard

The Shadows At My Feet Now Keep Me Warm

Again within evening's dread I wake
from a slumber open eyes did take.
Shiver, oh shutter, with each and every breath.
Lay with eyes wide open, dreaming of death.

I'm forgotten in my dreamscape fantasy,
for sleepless in weakness there is no joy for me.
I'm repulsed, I convulse, i'm rotting within,
let the weary blaze in me slowly dim.

A smile, at last! I can feel sweet joy.
Darkness, my friend, don't look so coy!
I thank you for the journey to the edge of life,
now keep close behind me, guard me with your scythe.

Onward I may go breathing smoothly in cheer
with the warmth of my shadow always near.
No fire is burning I am cold now inside,
and my heart now beats for the solace of my mind.
