The Smallest Thing Poem by Nancy Terrell

The Smallest Thing

The smallest thing
can make you feel alive
Present in the here and now
a bud, the wind the
magnificent night sky

All it takes
is a knowingness of
the stillness of death
the finishing and never renewing
of your life that was

It can be anything
surrounding you
no matter how gloomy
the translucence wings of a fly
or the dark shell of a roach

Life is meant to be lived
in the moment
in the forever NOW
so whatever you see
at any time or any place

is a manifestation
of the divine - within you
the eternal now
that will never be repeated

Life is meant to be lived
and enjoyed totally
right now, in this moment-
wherever you are
whatever you are doing
now, now yes, god damn, it
NOW
