The Smallest Worm In The Jungle Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

The Smallest Worm In The Jungle

The smallest worm I ever met
Lay drinking cool water
From a bubbling stream
Don't get washed away I pleaded
Or eaten by a large fish
Or trampled by a wild pig
Here in this jungle wild
I worry for you my friend
Can I build you a shelter
Can I make you a coat of mail
What can I do to help
Without interfering in your life

Dappled light fell upon the little worm
From a sun way above
A soft breeze blew about his person
Scented with forest perfume
I shivered with concern and worry
And looked about for predators
But the worm continued drinking

I spied some early birds
Circling above lost in the treetops
My, I thought, just how many enemies
Can one worm have
I looked down and the worm had gone
Perhaps to cover, perhaps to eternity
The stream kept bubbling
The jungle kept whispering
Perhaps the enemies Iworried about
Here in this beautiful place
Were simply mine.
