The Teardrops Fall Poem by Bancroft Boreland

The Teardrops Fall

Rating: 4.5

The day has once again
Been swallowed by the night
Through my telescope I gaze
At the skies far above
I see no moon, no stars, no life
I sense a deafening quietness
There is a light-less void
A terrible, frightening nothingness
As I envision the future of humanity
The teardrops fall

It is autumn
The leaves are brown and the skies are gray
It is my uncle’s funeral day
His breathless body lays motionless
In his shiny coffin
Trapped in the black arms of death
I can’t help wondering where he has gone
Is there life after death?
Does the soul really live on?
My eyes become moist as I realize
That death is promised to all
I try to hold them back but
The teardrops fall

I close my weary eyes
And listen to the clock of life rapidly ticking by
Dreading the moment that I too shall die
Death draws nearer, I can hear his call
I bow my head and pray silently while
The teardrops fall…
