The Thief Poem by Danielle Martens

The Thief

A thief, cursed to live
forever, is born again
and again
until she can no longer
stand to live.

Yet she continues.

She loves, and
feels the pain of loss.
The thief gives up
the thrill. Refuses to steal.

Yet she continues.

She becomes one of
those who would hunt her.
Becomes plain. Normal.

And she continues.
