The Truck Stop Next To You Poem by Kewayne Wadley

The Truck Stop Next To You

I found your heart by complete
& utter mistake.
I went straight home after work
Packed a bag and got in my car.
I wanted to go somewhere that was close
But far enough to say that I'd
Left for the weekend.

I stopped to get gas twice
Still unsure of where I was going,
Following the curve of your smile.
I really wished I brought someone
With me my initial thought
Before getting in the car
But what I found was much greater.

I found your heart by complete
& utter mistake.
'sorry' a caution sign posted in places
That may not be safe.
I feel like I've been here before.
Of all the responsibilities in the world.
I'd definitely come back every weekend
To help you change the marque board
Of things to remember.

I'd definitely come back to tell you
That I found your heart &
That It was not a mistake.
'sorry' a caution sign posted in places
That may not be safe.
But here, everyone runs that one red light
That never turns green
