The Vultures Are Hovering Again Poem by Emmanuel Aneto

The Vultures Are Hovering Again

1.The sky is pregnant
lightning pants and rants in the distant
as smokes billow, silent but gallant
while the vultures gallivant

2.See how innocent they look as they hover
their lips coated with honey softcover
their claws tucked undercover
as they scavenge for whom to maneuver

3.Every three and one years they hunt for their prey
From north to south, east to West theirs wings spray
Desperate at all cost to find their way
Soon! Oh! Very soon, it´s their Birthday

4.I have known these vultures from my childhood
I thought they meant well for the common good
NowI know better in these days of my manhood
They are a brotherhood that plunder our neighbourhood

5.Now again they are hungry and hovering
Their victims rumpled by suffering and smiling
never tire from jingles, clapping and cheering
only a daily bread they do their bidding

6.Oh! here is a land loaded with treasures
Here is a people rich with cultures
But her youths dangle with no futures
as these vultures flutter with pleasures

7.Dumb it seems elections to boycott
Full compliance is difficult
At last must come a magical result
as rigging entertains her guests in the occult

8.Now take note
As you queue-up to vote
These vultures think you a goat
Your votes make their ego bloat
They useand dump you like a robot
Why not try something new, a revolt
To rebuild this land from the root
