The Walk Poem by ABHIJIT BASU

The Walk

Rating: 5.0

Everyday I walk the same path for a mile,
I am following the same old track for a while,

I walk slowly towards the old Banyan tree and follow the trail,
This is my destination for many years without any fail,
There is a milestone showing that I have walked five miles,
Now it is time to return back home it indicates with a smile,

The purpose of evening walk is not walking itself,
It rejuvenates my mental, emotional and physical health,
This is the place where I come and stand at rest for awhile,
I recall my contemplative constitution of life,

There is a single Banyan tree standing lonely and alone,
No one for company or talk except my visit for once,
It seems to me that it waits all the day for my presence,
Or it may be that I want it more than any one else,

I stand under it for some time recollecting my failure and distinction,
I chat loudly with it when I want to release my rage or emotion,
It's my best friend, who listens to me with charismatic silence,
Like a sage sitting in meditation and slowly opens its eyes,
It tries to understand the meaning without any gripe,

Today I came on my evening walk and saw a funeral procession,
I saw lot of mourner came for the last departure of their mate,
I thought that the guy was very popular among his cohorts,
In fact Banyan tree understood my throbbing,

He said wistfully, Dear try to make maximum friends,
It is the best present you can give yourself in the end,
It matters how you teach your friends to bemoan,
When the dawn comes and you are gone,

I understood and walked back towards my residence,
Counting the names of my friends, whom I will have to train,
There were some, who stood by me for long,
Their existence makes me strong,

I reached at the door of my home and saw my wife sitting,
I was late and she was anxious for my arrival and waiting,
I thanked God that he has given me friends, who love me,
I slept today so that tomorrow again I can visit my friend,
To learn the trick of life and to absorb new lesson,

EVERY DAY I WALK THE SAME PATH FOR A MILE,
I WILL FOLLOW THE SAME OLD TRACK FOR A WHILE
