The Weight Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

The Weight

Rating: 5.0

Not knowing is a weight.
Not thinking takes patience.
Not chasing after answers
In the maze of wisdom
Battling imagined minotaurs
Is a skill to be practiced daily.

It is easier to leap into the river and swim
Than wait on the banks and listen.
It feels more meaningful to move,
Using your own muscles,
Following your own impulses,
Than to do nothing
Think nothing
Become nothing.

And yet each step is misplaced
All that energy is wasted,
Expended in the name of free will
Squandered along with lost time
Searching for something
As elusive as Truth.
