The Woes Of Clinical Lecturers Poem by Noor Othman

The Woes Of Clinical Lecturers

Rating: 5.0

The medical school is where we reside
Teaching students is what we abide
Day in day out, we do clinical round
Treating patients is what we abound

Treating patients is what we do,
Be they in clinics, in wards or ICU
We fix their pain we fix their mind
We hope the cure would be permanent

Now raise the issue of Impact Factor
A number tagged to journals of reputed caliber
If you publish in journals that have no such number
"Your promotion, I am sorry will not occur"

Does Impact Factor equates the impact?
Or the ploy of a game of one mighty Sac
Could this be the manipulation of certain kind?
By unknown Power to colonize the mind?

Why are we made to play the same game?
With counterparts who have no such job frame
It's like playing baseball using hockey stick
The ball will not fly, the player is called geek!

There is much more we clinicians do
Our CV says, this is not of value
"Publish or perish" is hammered thru
When the time comes, we bid adieu
