The World's True Light Poem by David Mitchell

The World's True Light

It fell upon a winter's night
Two thousand years ago
A Babe was born, 'neath starry light,
To save us all from woe.

His Mother, Mary, gave Him birth
All in a cattle shed,
And wise men came across the earth
With gifts, as it is said.

They brought Him incense, gold, and myrrh,
And owned Him as their King,
For He was their Deliverer;
His praises they did sing.

The shepherds also to Him came
At an angelic word,
And praised the Saviour's Holy Name,
For He was Christ the Lord,

That Child was born to save us all
Upon that starry night;
Though born inside a cattle stall,
He is the world's true Light.
