Thinking Of Me While Looking To You Poem by Serena Constance Grobler

Thinking Of Me While Looking To You

The year of yes
Being more than a year
More than dating
All about discovery
Navigating myself
Conquering my mind
Understanding love
Meeting myself
Finding that love
Seeing the truth
Realising the answer
The one in me
The one that changes me
Feeds my esteem
Polishes my ego
And lets it all go

Taking that step
Wanting to leap
Feeling the edge
Knowing its steep
Taking the plunge
Screwing the risk
Making me budge
Clearing the mist
Finding myself
Breaking outside
Seeing the depth
I always hide
Living in truth
Denying my lie
Discovering youth
Equation of pie
Not obligated to stay
Refusing to go
Facing my flaws
Letting them show
Looking at you
Looking at me
Seeing your hue
Green as my tea

Before it would count
Your opinion and actions
But as I grow
I know we all judge
Some feelings won’t go
But as we judge
As all humans do
I take the time
I realise
My opinion counts for me
My decisions made by me
My life lived for me
Whatever you think
Whatever you do
Life’s decisions you make
You live with for you
As I make a stand
To be human and to err
I do it for me
Don’t worry about her
She can judge
She will advise
As if it’s her place
Her life to decide
Humans poke and they prod
They peak and they judge
They turn away from themselves
They distract their direction

We look to the West
While we live in the East
Competing the best
Releasing our beast
Losing this moment
Faking the bliss
Instead of letting go
And feeling magic in this
Each breath that we take
Every movement we’ve made
No moment false faced
True emotion, Jack Ace
This life that we live
Letting go to explore
Everything that we give
Expectation no more
Doing to do
And loving to love
Being yourself
Not pulling your plug
Accepting yourself
Defined by your flaws
Changing for you
Not for surrounds
Or closing the doors
Leaving them open
In case we go back
Or come in a circle
As we backtrack
Often the choice is but strait
And the mind may be still
As the body will progress
Emotions can chill
Sometimes full circle will shine
No errors
The decisions of mine

Discovering your truth
Not what others have found?
Letting me be
Allowing what’s there
To be brought to the light
Not even to care
Opinions of those
Who have logs in their eyes
Look to the light
With the splinter in mine
Adjusting the outlook
Not pulling it out
Accepting the difference
Not blending me out
Allow individuality to stand
Taking the stage
Feeling the crowd
Screaming my name
The praise that one gets
For difference so tame
Imagine reactions
For ones that society shames
The ones that make me
The characteristics that make you
The reason we stand out
What makes me me and you you
Accepting ourselves
Accepting each other
Allowing the change
That comes as discovered
Believing the truth
That is in me and deep in you too
Accepting the difference
As God allows freewill to do
Minds of our race
Differ from each other
Not letting one copy
The hopes of another
Discover your truth
Let me look to mine
Understanding opinions
And differences of mind
Accepting our fears
As another humans dreams
And knowing my goals
Might be opposing my team
Letting my choice
Be the decision I make
Not counting my parents
Or friends who will take
Opinions of me
And make me be fake
And not letting me live my life
On opinions others make
