three dogs
black and brown and white
wait for their breakfast
watching you as you eat
your hot dogs and sandwich
the smell of coffee
invading the empty room
at the other side of the
room far from the three dogs
two cats black and gray
watch you too anticipating
their share of fish
the three dogs and two cats
have always been at war
without the hint of reconciliation at all
and you feed all of them
without question
at the center of the table
your fish in the aquarium swims
alone and bubbling...
