Throes Of Anticipation Poem by Santosh Bakaya

Throes Of Anticipation

THROES OF ANTICIPATION
The setting sun of the last day of the year
Was a girl with hair the shade of honey
With a ruby blush of a teen's first crush.
What was this hullabaloo, this stir?
Bushes thrilled with the thrum of innumerable wings
Waiting, waiting
Breath bated
For the dawn of the New Year.
Bloated with promise of the coming of peace, belated.
The New Year stirred, with the chirp of a bird
The sky had a new coat of enamel
Flawless.
The colour of blood in the veins
Plush blue.
A few stringy clouds
Motionless
Like ripples in marble.
The ducks merrily waddling across the paddock
The seven sisters enamored of their spirited talks
The woodpecker heralding the New Year with its knocks.
Why did my heart flutter? What did it mutter?
Was the caroling of the birds with a sardonic irony pregnant?
Was the New Year's sun sheathed in a sinister smile?
Ah, perish the thought!
There was a glorious surge, my skin tingled
Different hues mingled.
The smoldering fires of autumn
The white of the snowy landscape
Streams singing their ancient tunes
All burst upon me with a renewal of spirit,
Scripting a fresh manuscript.
Sunlight filtered through the window
Lo and behold a new year was dawning
On a spectacular morning.
