'Tis True Enough Poem by Francis Duggan

'Tis True Enough

'Tis true enough mate your best days may be gone
But with your life's battles you do carry on
Born to poor parents on Poverty Street
But with gusto the challenges of life you meet
In your early fifties and your hair quite gray
And for you no such a thing as an easy pay
Without children and one who never had a wife
But you are one who knows about the hard life
You may be one not destined for to grow old
And the story of your life may not be told
A street kid and homeless when you were fourteen
And only the hard life you ever have seen
On life's hardest road you have travelled your share
But you are a brave one and your type are rare.
