To Infinity And Beyond Poem by Bill Wright

To Infinity And Beyond

Rating: 5.0

We had our meal, we had our drink,
Then lights out.
Sitting silently on the blood red earth,
We looked straight up,
To infinity and beyond.

The speckled sky stretching,
As far as the eye could see,
No light pollution here,
No traffic to shatter the silence,
No mobiles chirping, only crickets.

We hung on every word,
As our guide pointed them out,
The stars, constellations and planets,
A vastness beyond our comprehension,
Light years above our heads.

In a funny turn of fate,
Something you wouldn't expect,
Free from light pollution,
Our guide showed us all these things,
Using a laser pointer.

Thirty of us sat enthralled,
A sight none had seen before,
A vast carpet high above us,
Scarcely a spare space in the sky,
Its like I will never see again.
