To Keep It Safe (Villanelle) Poem by C.D. Sinex

To Keep It Safe (Villanelle)

Rating: 5.0

To keep it safe we'd meet mid-day
those times when I came back to town.
What harm could come from lunch we'd say
in bright cafes with crowds around?

Those times when I came back to town,
those times when you could get away,
in bright cafes with crowds around,
we'd talk until you couldn't stay.

Those times when you could get away,
the days when we would not be found,
we'd talk until you couldn't stay,
or just hold hands without a sound.

Those days when we would not be found,
what harm could come from lunch we'd say,
and just hold hands without a sound—
To keep it safe we'd meet mid-day.
