To Love Foremost Poem by Mark Sauer

To Love Foremost

To love foremost the hidden mind
And veiled source of all else we love
Is hard. Why should we peek behind
The sun or seek our heart above
The stars, when here we see our soul's
Desires made flesh and manifest?
When Abraham upon the knoll
Raised the blade over Isaac's breast,
The world shuddered, and trembles still;
But when He sacrificed His Son,
The hosts stood silent on the hill;
Among the angels there was not one
In all that horror-stricken band
Who dared break ranks and stay His hand.
