Today Is Today Poem by Vincent Cibelli

Today Is Today

Its early march
the heavy snow that one time seemed infinite
has given way to green grass
my father hammers repairs outside
I bring wood for the fire
my mother sits in her room quilting
and I ask what century is this?
my computer doesn't have an answer
my cat does but she wont tell
I don't believe the calendar
Gregory lies, or maybe he was just misinformed

Kiss me my love in the shadow of the pyramids,
timeless tombs being built before our eyes
Love me under the bleachers of the colosseum
As the lions feast on small intestines
I'm going to hunt for the tribe
I’ll return victorious tonight
Unless the mammoth has the last laugh
I may die but my dust lives on
Breathe me in
For I'm going out for milk and cigarettes
And I wont be coming back
