Tomorrow Poem by Tony Adah

Tomorrow

Since I came
Out of the valley
Or from where
I do not know
And left open
To the whims
Of the world,
I have seen nothing good.
That will not make me
On purpose blind myself
Oh, I thought
I had a country
Perhaps yesterday,
Definitely not today
Probably tomorrow!
What do you have
At hand today?
Sometimes a hoe
Somehow a shovel
Or somewhere a pen,
Skimp not on
Your duty to your country
That fed you from cradle
But return it to our children
For their tomorrow
Will be better
As I see it
In a mist of my tears.
