Tornado Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

Tornado

Rating: 5.0

It turned from grey to pea soup green
Quite the scariest change I’ve seen
As the noise built up to a crescendo started to pound
We all need to get out of here and get underground
The roar increased as that tower came on fast
We have to hide away until it has passed
Twisting this sway and that on its way across
The houses it hits, smashing away, a total loss
Trees flung this way and that like straw
The fear within us really started to gnaw
A half-mile wide this monster grew
Houses standing as it passed, very few
It’s upon us in such a flash
There’s this deafening crash
Suddenly it’s gone passed with speed
Taking everything that we need
All that’s left are foundations alone
The rest stripped like meat from a bone
An F5 tornado such a shocking word
Surviving direct hits is rarely heard
