Trees In Stress Poem by John A'Hern

Trees In Stress

The usual walk watching scenery unfold
These days a walk is more of a stroll
A path never walked appeared
Off I go plenty of time to spare
Birds abound safety in their nests
Path now disappears not worn underfoot
Not many intruders have walked this ground
Trees appear they are in stress
Most just look like a tangled mess
I ponder the cause of naked trees
Branches all twisted so sad to see
In my best tree whisperer voice
I talk to them that is my choice
No others around to hear my sounds
Imagination hears their replies
Question after question is answered
A story begins to unfold
Once more humans are the cause
What human cause affected you so?
Why do you look so tired?
Clearing for houses shouted loud and strong
Once we ruled this patch of nature
Now we stand awaiting our executioner
What can I do what do I say?
I stand and look in dismay
The trees will return from where they came
Into the ground where they once stood so proud
A photo of remembrance is taken
View my offering and check your emotions
Do you feel shocked or do you hide your feelings?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A walk that is now more of a stroll these days, lead me to a sight that stopped me in my tracks. Trees dying from what cause? humans are once again acting without a thought before destroying anything that stands in the way of progress.
