Triage Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Triage

Triage

Long ago
-though involved
-had not heard "Triage."

Whenever encountered
-the needy or injured
-gave the right to the one
-with most need…

Conscious said:
- "Look after the weakest."

Guess learned it
-when reading
-the work of a prof.

But tonight's hospital
-turned to be very wild
-after she sought to talk
-in writing; not by call.

She was an exception
-extremely polite;
-I nodded, bowed to her.

Following her text, I
-asked nurses; they replied:
- "She is in triage! "

Single word was enough;
-to make heart break, fall…

Was in bed and alone!

No husband and no one
-while waiting to give birth.

What I gave was some food
-that was all, with some mood…
-and the nurse commented:
- "Can't let you till approved! "
