Tribute To Women Poem by Nosheen Irfan

Tribute To Women

Rating: 5.0

You are God's master-stroke
Born from an amalgamation
Of light and colors

All the stars in the sky
Can they make up for you?
All the flowers in the garden
Can they take your place?
All the words from a poet's pen
Can they find your soul?

You are a woman
Your light shines day and night
Your colors fade in no season
Your depth is beyond measure

From Eve to Mother Teresa
Your wonder lies in womanhood.

I liked your poem, but honestly I won't take it as anything more than just a way of pushing the myth of women as some kind of exotic, incomprehensible, nearly alien being! ! Between Eve and Mothe Teresa, there lies many, many women out there and we need to celebrate them too.. However, to look at it from only a poem's point of view and not as a eulogisation to ALL WOMEN, I find this beautifully written Nosheen.. To be frank, I would read this alongside your 'A Silent Acquiesce', which is undoubtedly one of my favourite poems of yours.. And maybe we need both to glorify women and the 'myth of women', as well as to ensure that we do not sweep under the rug the 'other' side of the tale - how the 'glorified' women acquise silently to the injustices against them, just because, at times, they are afraid that it would contradict to the 'glorified' image.. Or how we don't believe that women can be different than that very 'glorified' image of theirs so badly thrown into our brains.. P: S: I too behave like a misogynist many a times, a little hypocrite here!

Reading these words my mother came to mind, my sisters and my nieces. The woman in the African Sahara carrying her work upon her head. Her beauty, her determination. A rose may hint at her beauty. So sad I think that some woman feel it necessary to sell themselves short, pushing their physical beauty in an obscene manner. The subtle beauty of the natural feminine being in the market place is extraordinary. Beyonce on the other hand is a comical exaggeration. Mother Teresa and Eve exemplify the nurturing wonder, the beauty of heart and soul.
