True Independence Poem by Kishore Asthana

True Independence

True Independence

The world may be an illusion
Served by the devil’s crew
But till we live, you and I
Will swim in this brew

Let me show you a way
Well-known but used by few
And divulge an open secret
Ancient, yet forever new

Trances are a waste of time
Holy bribes you must eschew
Set aside your cap and robe
And be a seeker true

Rituals are not for those
Intent on going through
Or the rules of others
On what to do, or not to do

All thought is useless
And the top-knot is, too
Words lead you astray
In the search for YOU
