Two Legends Of Old Millstreet Town Poem by Francis Duggan

Two Legends Of Old Millstreet Town

Long before their names were on a plaque on a bridge to honor their renown
Johnny and Lena O keeffe were legends of Millstreet Town
As leaders of the Millstreet Tidy Town Group they never did wish any plaudits to win
But thanks to them and those they inspired Millstreet nowadays a cleaner and a better Town to live in

I remember when Johnny for Cork and Millstreet played Gaelic football
As a marvelous defender athletic and tall
But going back the years this now seems long ago
And eventually time becomes everyone's foe

But sadly his beautiful and devoted wife Lena has lived her last day
And Johnny not the man he waswhich seems sad to say
He and Lena their part in the betterment of Millstreet they did playAnd in the field of good example They led the way.

Long before their names were on a plaque on a bridge to honor their renown
Johnny and Lena O keeffe were legends of old Millstreet Town
To their community and parish always a sense of pride
Beyond Millstreet their story has traveled far and wide.
