Two Voices Poem by Barry Middleton

Two Voices

the night speaks with two voices
one says darkness is despair
the other welcomes dreams and rest

the darkness is resignation
the bowing to the inevitable
the end of pain must end my joy

the light is in the east
the horizon hides the dream of day
as sleepy eyes perceive the glow

the night dream was a memory
a child alone in secret woods
asleep beneath his favorite tree

the child and man will soon awake
and watch the sun come up
and dream again of the day voices

for darkness always yields
at least it always has
the planet turns to greet the sun

even if it is in a dream, it disturbs one as a real event.a child alone in the secret woods asleep beneath his favourite tree.
