Twofold Words Poem by Heather Owens

Twofold Words

What would you think if I showed you true despair?
Swallowed your dreams, took away your air.
Gripped your neck, tore your seems
Threw you away and left you to bleed.

What would you say if I let you taste true love?
Flowing, rippling, undulating inside, seeping into the pours,
Temperature rises, begging for more,
A gnawing hunger never to cure.

Which would you chose?
Petty twofold words
Both fill you completely
And then leave you empty
Pitiless remorse.
