Undertaking Poem by Connor Brown

Undertaking

Distraught I thought to fight
The ensuing patrols
But knowing my own weakness
From the pain in my thigh,
Instead I ducked my head
As bullets flew by,
My heart was racing,
And my hands were pacing themselves as I reached
For the gun holstered on my side,
My body was trembling with pain
And inside I felt like dieing,
For the enemy we faced,
Behind the guns shooting
Sending bullets our way
Lied brothers in blue
And fathers dressed in blood
