Upon My Heart Poem by Steffi Webster

Upon My Heart

Through the cold dark tomb
I feel you stirring, bearing
Through the blackness a
Halo of light. Dwelled in
Night ‘til this beauty touched
With spark of love descended
And befriended my empty soul
And made me whole. Thought
I lived in the sun but was really
A shadow next to this flame
Who I could never hope to
Tame but again I watch
With eyes unclouded to
See the face I revere but tinted
With the fleck of fear. Fear
You’re leaving, fear of the alone.
It floods and seeps through
Sinew and bone to be cast to
The pain and the dying loss
Of finding you gone. Returned
To the cold of old which the
Heat of the phoenix restrains.
Dare I call you mine?
Burning too brightly to
Behold, love overflows.
Do not leave I implore
It all is yours. My body,
My life, my mind. O kind
Sweet love I bind
My soul to you
Forever true.
