Veterans Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Veterans

Veterans

See them build monuments
Gather tourists, lecture:
"Lost their lives to save us! "

My ears hear and
Stomach boils, bubbles.

Want to go grab them,
Destroy monument.

"Who? Who? Who?
What? What? What? "

Want to roar like lion,
In my mouth, my liver:
"Mus make a government
To work for the people,
Remove these murderers! "

Unknown soldier holds gun
I dream of bullets
Racing out of barrel
Killing some brother!

Want to shout:
"I know who all his targets,
Poor friends, the harmless! "

Dreading the vengeance
Of the ruling cruel,
Murmur: "You millionaires,
The leeches, vampires…"

Having been to the graves,
Visited the injured,
Pitied the veterans:
"Fools, victims of hunger! "

They smile, dead, alive:
"Boring was stark life,
Went away to have fun!
