Vincent Van Gogh 32 - Vincent Completely Lost Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Vincent Van Gogh 32 - Vincent Completely Lost

Rating: 5.0

When life becomes a continuous train of troubles,
You begin to doubt the existence of God.
Where is God when you are struggling,
Crying and calling out for help?
This is what Vincent felt and experienced
After a series of failures in his life.

Vincent just sat, ate and slept
During the weeks that followed.
Slowly, he began to improve his health.
He developed strength but his eyes
Still had a forlorn, lost look.
He seemed uninterested in anything

A letter from his brother arrived,
With bank notes urging him to start a new life,
And not waste his time doing nothing.
Vincent gave the whole money to Madam Denis.
She had given him boarding and lodging all this while,
And was supporting him still, with no questions asked.

Vincent continued living in Madam Denis's Bakery.
He did not bother to heed the advice of his brother Theo.
Theo was the only person in his life who understood him.
But now, he had lost the love and trust of his brother too.
Summer arrived and Vincent began to walk,
But without any purpose or pleasure.

Vincent was completely lost.
He had lost his job.
He had no income.
He had lost all his goals.
He had lost the love of his brother.
He had lost God and himself too!

'given him boarding and lodging' I grew up hearing 'room and board' and did a search which indicated 'board' is (in this case) is synonomous with 'meals'. I'm in USA. ;)

'Vincent gave the whole money to Madam Denis' I'd say 'gave all (of) the money'. NO, give Bri some also, Vince! ;)

It's nothing short of a miracle that Vincent had survived this long. Geeta, your inspirational series is a testament to the human spirit. And to your immense talent as a poetess!
