Voting Day Poem by Kinyua Karanja

Voting Day

One icy cold october early morning
Torrential rain and dew drips down
Being sporadic with almost rhythmic
Lightnings and deafening thunderstorms
This was by all standards a heavy rain
Especially considering this as a dry month
But neither the rain nor the chilly wind
Could amount enough power of deterrence
To the determined hearts of Kenyan voters
In making their democratic decision count.

All people young and old streams
Up and down the polling stations
Armed police officers on guard
Keeping law and order on check.

IEBC officials behind desks
Everything runs smoothly
No long queues as common
Only one ballot and one box
Few minutes and it's all over.
