Vulture Poem by Hans Raj Sharma

Vulture

Rating: 3.0

Looking
At abandoned
Human progeny
Male or female
You, the better judge.
Very humbly
After
Routine prayers
A predator
Singing and dancing
Dancing and singing
In a fit of madness
Madness of joy
Advancing
In a rhythmic
Stylish gait
Towards its prey
Uttering
The utterances
Of thankfulness
And love of God.
Looking
Greedy and cruel
Watering its mouth
Staring
At the feeble
Tiny skinny body
Of flesh and blood
Might be hungry
And thirsty
Like the brood
For several days
Still-
With its gratitude
For the mankind
For no claim
No claim of
The living dead.
Though
Not sufficient
Sufficient stuff
To suffice
One time hunger
Yet, excited
For it dying
With hunger.
Before
Pouncing
At the victim
Thanking
Man in words-
‘O, God!
It’s not YOU
But the man
Looking after
Taking care of me
O, God
Kind enough
If keep not
My first gratitude
As meant for YOU
Transferring it
To the man’.
