Waiting Poem by Ayman Parray

Waiting

Rating: 5.0

When I was young and naive,
I wanted to fly, reach the sky
I thought glory through war was my game
Worlds to conquer, songs would be sung,
In my name
But instead I looked for love,
That first kiss
The promise of bliss
But other suitors love always has many,
and I waited for opportunity
It never came only came rumors and stories

When I was older I did fight in wars,
Ran out of missile batteries and that stuff that fuels stars
I kept fighting, pelted stones at enemies
They captured me, gave me scars
Send me to prison for no apparent reason
Released by war's end at the end of the season,
I thought there would be honors, medals and victory,
and i waited for glory
It never came only came pain, suffering and misery

Now I am old, and wise I think,
I tend a farm and sell its produce with my charm,
A family I do not have, never was good with any
Because the scars of war make family life tricky
Looking at now how the world passes by me
I think of me and my deathbed,
and I am waiting

A heart rending poem with a striking image! The poem captures the heart so deeply! Beautifully written Ayman! Now I am old, and wise I think, I tend a farm and sell its produce with my charm. Loved these two lines and the ending too!

It's a great gift to be able to envision a life through eyes that aren't yours. I don't know if you wrote this poem about someone you know or read about, if the character is imagined or if some metaphor is at play which I've been unable to perceive. What's not a mystery though is that the poem (and its author) is a thoughtful one. Another great write Ayman

An insightful look at life from a young man who understands as well as any

In both love and war, victory is a delusion. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, you are still waiting. You have captured the essence of life in a very realistic way. Kudos!
