Waiting (Grey's Hospital) Poem by Adrian Flett

Waiting (Grey's Hospital)

Rating: 5.0

As newcomers move in and settle with aspiration,
a bucolic blanket of calm covers all, in resignation
which secretes fear; combined by resolve
to bear the sickness, with the need to solve.

There is a silent sense, a dense sense
permeating the whole floor's presence
with a stank, dank cold air of expectation
as we wait with patient anticipation.

Kids cough, scream, sniffle and shout
people fidget in chairs and walk about
carrying bulging bundles, holding all
worldly goods while waiting, awaiting the call.

But at the first official shout,
awareness that change is about,
causes a shift and lifts aroused attention,
focuses all eyes and ears with comprehension.

There is no way out, or in
the file is required before you begin.
At the final call of your name
fetch your file, go elsewhere to wait again.
