Walls Poem by Josephine Adrian

Walls

I have walls,
They are the type no one can see.
I built them a while ago,
To guard this heart inside me.

I shiver at the thought of letting someone in,
In the walls I spent so long making.
I spent so long protecting,
I can’t stand the thought, of all of that breaking.

These walls define me,
These walls secure me,
These walls hide me.
These walls are me.

Within these walls is all I know.
I’ve let others in;
But never ventured outside,
I’m too afraid that MY walls might cave in.
