Walls Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

Walls

I do not know what went wrong
Presumption not in the vocabulary
No angry words
Just the walls caved in
Earthquakes, there were none
Bricks parted from the bonding mortar
Falling in unison
Those walls caved in
Bang they went, covering all around in the dust
Tears of the nomad left say it all
Confused once he planted those roots
Built something thought to be invulnerable
Oh how loud those walls caved in
Foolish, foolish thought
A jester in his own court
Playing to his own vanity
So sure, he was right
Nature proved him so wrong
The walls caved in
Trapped in his dream he did not see
Decay ate away at the foundation of his hope
Weakening, then deafening as the silence sounds
The walls caved right in
All buried as the nomad walked away
One foot following the other
A dream left in the dust
As the walls caved in
