What Becomes Of A Child? Poem by Lily Espinosa

What Becomes Of A Child?

What becomes of a child,
Who is turned away by their mother?
Mentally abused by their father?
Are they left to wither into a bitter weed
From the beautiful rose they had once been,
Left to travel the world alone, to contemplate why?

Self abuse and denial pave the rocky road ahead.
For now, sorry just isn't enough,
Rejection? It’s never been so tough.
As a child you'd tell me- even in the midst of a dispute
You always loved me just the same.
But they say things change,
And I guess that’s just another too.
I'm older now and sorry just doesn’t cut it.
Well I'll never pour my heart out to you,
And with no-where left to turn,
I just don't know what to do.
