What Is It That You Want? Poem by Tristian Ford

What Is It That You Want?

Rating: 5.0

Back in the days when I was young,
I wanted to be grown.
Once I got grown,
I wanted back to those days when I was a kid.
When I was alone,
I dreamed to be with someone.
Once I got with someone, it made me want to be alone.
I enjoyed life to the fullest when there were no
responsibilities for me.
Once obligations became too many for me,
they invaded my life to the fullest.

Then one night,
the limit had been exceeded.
What boundaries should one press on?
Which limitations should one adhere to?
What is it that you want?

Time after time,
I wrapped my soul in a lace of lies,
with sterling deceit to clasp them all.
Thinking I was gaining a spine-chilling prize,
I extended my heart to acquire it all.
My mind never considered correctly calculating my fall.

At those times,
I was only following my heart.
I've learned that a heart doesn't have eyes or a brain.
It's together when you're happy
-Sometimes-
It breaks when you're in pain.
I shouldn't listen to my deceitful heart.
Besides keeping me alive,
Its existence is in vain.

So now I ask the heart,
'What is it that you want, again? '

One person may die with his full passion,
with prosperity in his hand,
being entirely at ease and secure

Another dies in bitterness of soul,
never having tasted prosperity,
living uncomfortable and insecure.

Life, What is it that you want?
Heart, What is it that you want to endure?
