What Others Say About Me Poem by Francis Duggan

What Others Say About Me

What others say about me why should I even care
Since many in their judgements of others seem unfair
I've nothing to feel ashamed of yet my own worth I deny
And that there are many like me I really wonder why?

Some people lack in confidence and have low self esteem
Yet the most successful into self promotion at least that's how 'twould seem
And self praise it is no praise to all does not apply
You will always struggle in your life if you are born shy.

If you don't stand up for yourself none will stand up for you
And few will sing your praises though credit you are due
To receive any recognition yourself you must promote
Our weakness is our self centredness and that's not hard to note.

I am one who has an ax to grind some people of me say
And the hands of time will not stop turning if I put my pen away
And though not not seen as successful at least I had a try
And I will go on scribbling until the day I die.
